When we seem out of balance, it could be more than just what we are eating, feeling or expressing that is out of alignment. It could be something affecting our spiritual well-being that is causing us to make poor choices.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness where the subconscious mind is in a state of hyper-suggestibility. In a hypnotic state, your subconscious is more aware. You become open to shift old patterns and receive suggestions that will help you to achieve your specific goals by changing your mindset. This ancient technique was practiced in Egypt and Greece more than 3,000 years ago. Hypnosis creates a natural state of heightened awareness and is frequently accompanied by feelings of deep physical and mental relaxation.

A self-empowering mind technique, hypnosis requires a partnership of mutual trust and respect between a person and their Hypnotist. You are guided into a trance state where conscious distractions are minimized and the subconscious mind becomes receptive to positive suggestions. Often used to complement other healthcare or personal growth techniques, hypnosis enhances traditional treatments and procedures.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

Yes because it’s voluntary. There are three exceptions: 1) Those who don’t want to be hypnotized; 2) Those who cannot concentrate at all, including people with extreme hyperactivity, very low IQ’s, or those under the influence of drugs/alcohol; and 3) Those who refuse to cooperate or follow directions.

Who is in control?

You are in control at all times. In fact, you are probably more in control in hypnosis since you are utilizing a larger portion of your brain. Hypnosis is a do-with and not a do-to process. Hypnotists act as guides for your journey. They help you learn to use the power of your mind and emotions to your full advantage. Clients typically remember everything that happens in a session, and can never be made to do anything that goes against their belief system.

Can hypnosis change someone’s personality?

Hypnosis can enhance certain facets of one’s personality in very positive ways. Those who consistently utilize hypnosis develop better awaareness, confidence, and communication skills, are more relaxed, resourceful, and are able to accomplish goals more efficiently because they are fully using their internal resources. After decades of studying and applying hypnotic principles with clients, I believe hypnosis can help individuals accomplish goals faster than any other tool in existence!

Is Hypnosis recognized as a valid tool?

Yes. In the past, hypnosis has been controversial in western culture, but reputable healthcare providers now agree it can be a powerful, effective therapeutic technique used to complement and enhance traditional healthcare treatments and procedures or personal growth techniques. In fact, today, hypnosis is offered at a wide variety of healthcare facilities and hospitals, including Boston’s own Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as well as Mount Sinai, University of Michigan, University of Washington in Seattle, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Loyola University Medical Center and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in the Chicago area, among other facilities throughout the country.

Additionally, the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association have approved hypnosis for smoking cessation, stress reduction, and behavior modification. It’s taught at Harvard and Stanford medical schools and is used by all branches of the United States Military. The Vatican gave hypnosis a thumbs-up in the 1950’s.

Is there any danger of a hypnotized person not waking up?

No. There are NO recorded cases of a person under hypnosis not returning to a normal state/level of functioning. However, clients have been known to fall asleep, or not want to come out of the hypnotic state because it can be so relaxing and euphoric!

Are you unconscious or sleeping during hypnosis?

No. You are in a semi-awake state, like just before you fall asleep, or when you are daydreaming. Most people remember everything about their sessions. At times you may not remember every suggestion because you will be very relaxed. All of the suggestions offered are positive and in your best interests.

What is self-hypnosis?

Self-hypnosis is the ability to get yourself incredibly relaxed and then offer suggestions directly to your own subconscious mind. It is often said that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

How can self-hypnosis help me?

You can quickly and effectively learn how to relax under stress and pressure. You can discover how to program your mind and body for the attainment of physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual goals, and regain the power of choice in your life. Through self-hypnosis, you will develop more confidence in both yourself and your abilities.

Can anyone be taught self-hypnosis?

Yes. Anyone who is interested in hypnosis and is willing to learn how to do it can achieve wonderful results. We teach our clients self-hypnosis during one of their sessions. Once people feel the deep relaxation and experience the mind-calming benefits, self-hypnosis becomes a healthy part of their lives.

How long does hypnosis last?

Hypnosis lasts as long as you want it to. We teach you how to use self-hypnosis so that you can continue to get and/or keep results. Like anything else, regular maintenance and practice is necessary, yet the principles taught become like second-nature, so the process seems easy and effortless.

Does hypnosis really work?

We've been helping people reach their goals for decades, and have yet to find more effective ways to help them succeed other than using hypnosis techniques, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and other advanced hypnosis coaching techniques. Yes, it definitely works!

Can hypnosis open your mind up to the devil?

No. This myth has no basis in reality. Actually, we believe that having faith in your higher self will make you more successful as a human being. We feel that you are blessed with an amazing mind, body and spirit. As such, we respect your personal beliefs and work on all levels, connecting you with Master Guides, your wise mind, higher self, angels, or passed over loved ones. They often give amazing insight, clarity, and guidance in the sessions.

Can you be made to do things you don’t want to do?

No. You are always in control of your mind, and actions. You would never do anything against your own moral code. When you see entertainment shows with people that appear to be sleeping and acting silly, it is because they want to act silly. If the subjects were actually sleeping, it would be a very boring show!

How many sessions will it take to achieve my goal?

The number of sessions varies from person to person, which is one of the main reasons why we require you to attend an Initial Hypnosis Consultation. We are serious about getting you results, which is why we tailor a program to fit your specific needs. Most adults achieve significant results in 7 - 12 sessions. Children carry less baggage, so they require fewer sessions. In most cases, especially for weight loss, you will need multiple sessions that extend over a period of time.

Some people think hypnosis is a quick fix. Hypnosis does work better, faster, and lasts longer than other solutions, but it’s not a quick fix. It is similar to going to a personal trainer to work out. You cannot grow muscles in one or two visits, it takes time. Consider that hypnosis is a tool to help you grow new mental muscles... new neuro-pathways. It takes longer for some clients than others. It also depends on what all you want to work on. Our clients get great results in a reasonable time. We care about our clients and are passionate about helping them succeed. That speaks for itself.

Are your services confidential?

Absolutely. Coming from a medical bacground, we respect HIPAA confidentiality. Nobody will know you are a client unless you tell them, which we hope you do! Once you discover how effective and motivating our programs are, you’ll want to tell your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, employers, employees, doctors, and anyone else who can benefit.

How much does it cost?

Cost depends on your needs, which are determined at the Initial Hypnosis Consultation. You pay at the beginning of each session with a card, check or cash. Flex spending and HSA cards are accepted. We even have sponsorship programs for people who are financially challenged, yet are sincere about making a commitment to improving their life.

Does insurance cover your services?

Usually, no. Some employers, however, offer FLEX plans to cover weight loss and smoking cessation programs. HSA plans can also be used. We do recommend you check with your provider first.

Why do I need to attend the Initial Hypnosis Consultation?

To make sure hypnosis is right for you. We will check to see how sincere you are about achieving your goal. We will test your level of suggestibility to determine your chances of success, what approach is needed, and how long it might take to obtain your ultimate goal. Finally, it’s our way of selecting people that are most ready for change. Our Center is always full, with a waiting list to get in. Those who set up their appointments, show up on time, and decide on a plan are the same people you end up seeing and hearing in our testimonials.

Why won’t you tell me how much it costs over the telephone?

It’s part of our selection process. It lets us know how sincere you are. Even though our prices are in range with other hypnotists in the area, we use this as one measure to see how serious you are about getting results. If you won’t make time for a Free Consultation, why should we think you would make time for your goals? We are looking for clients who have had enough frustration and are ready for a positive change. These are the people who sign up, show up for their initial consultations, and succeed! We even have programs for those who are financially challenged. The real question is, “Are you ready?”

Will my doctor think hypnosis is a good idea?

It depends on how well educated your doctor is in integrative or complementary medicine. If s/he only believes the myths portrayed on TV, likely not. Yet, most physicians are in favor of hypnosis and will suggest you try it and let them know how it goes. We get doctor referrals all the time from MD’s, dentists, and therapists throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

What People Are Saying

“Mostly, I had started looking into hypnosis for mindfulness and curiosity. I was having issues with anger, frustration and wanted to get rid of anything negative before I moved from the area. My anger is pretty much diffused now. Everything is a lot better. I am happier, and looking forward to making a major move. The sessions were amazing… I loved them. I loved the pace. I like the lasting effects that come with it. I was expecting something very different. It wasn’t all of the sudden. It allows for a nudge that makes you change.” Ross J.

Firefighter

“I had a referral from another health practitioner that recommended I come see Lois for some seizure issues that my very sensitive dog had been having. I think the sessions helped her. She was a little bit sad before, and now seems to be lighter and happier. I thought it was really interesting to consider your pet on an emotional level and be with them to see what they are experiencing. I recommend this to people for their pets and for themselves.” Lauren P.

Business Planner

“After sessions with Lois, I have seen a great deal of improvement within my own life. I was dealing with an issue of fear that I have been addressing with many different types of combined therapeutic approaches, but this seemed to provide relief in a way I did not think was possible. I would highly recommend Lois Hermann and her practices to those considering hypnosis, as well as referring her to my own clients.” Kimberly E.
